Load shedding has always hit the learners of Jan Kriel School hard. Not only is a large part of their computerized learning aids dependent on electricity, but also the functioning of the hostels and the breathing machines of physically disabled learners.
After thorough investigation in 2024, with the help of Johann de Bruyn Consulting Engineers, the Jan Kriel Institute board decided to erect a 500kvA solar power plant. This system will provide sufficient protection against load shedding, but will also result in savings on the electricity bill. The facility was put into operation on 23 January 2025. Excess power generated may also be fed back to the municipality.
Jan Kriel says THANK YOU to our donors who also helped meet this great need of our learners.
